From our Fire Chief Dan Campion:
Regarding burning and permits - you have to check the DNR's website daily at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/ForestFire/restrictions.asp and click on Burnett county to see the daily regulations. This info isn't updated until after 11am daily. I'd suggest burning this winter, since the DNR is considering an all-out burning ban this spring. As for the burning permit: you can get them from any of our Emergency Fire Wardens (Jeanie Radke, Voyager Village, Nancy Growe (copied on this email), etc) or online at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/ForestFire/permits.html Please be careful when burning - sadly we are still in the forest fire season - Grantsburg Fire had several acres of field and woods burn yesterday.
Your huge brush pile: It is our policy not to provide this service for the following reason:
1) We did burn some piles for a resident last spring and it was a nightmare. The logs were 12" in diameter and would have burned for days.
2) We open ourselves up to liability if the fire re-kindles.
3) We tie up our personnel and equipment for several hours during the burn, and are short handed if we should receive another call.
4) Offering this service is a slippery slope - if we burn your pile, then we're on the hook to burn hundreds of piles around the town.
5) We all have at least one other full time job and don't have the time to provide this service.
Some options for you to consider include splitting the pile up into smaller piles, or hiring a contractor to remove the debris pile.
PLEASE NOTE
We are NO LONGER accepting brush at Town Hall until further notice. Please check here for up-to-date information.
THE STORM OF 2011
On Friday, July 1 the Town of Jackson and its residents experienced the storm that no one will ever forget.
By Saturday morning, the Road Crew and the volunteer firefighters were out and checking to assess the damages. On Sunday morning, the Town Board declared the Town of Jackson in a "state of emergency". From that point on, cleanup proceeded throughout the week, with volunteers coming from as far away as Barron and Almena-the Mennonites, the Scott, Shell Lake and Grantsburg Fire Departments, the Crex Meadows Conservation Camp, the DNR & local town residents. Our own road crew and firefighters were there working every day from morning until evening.
Since almost every road in the town was blocked with downed trees and power wires, one of the first things done was to check on the welfare of the residents checking to see if there were any injuries.
The next order of business was to start clearing roads wide enough for an emergency vehicle to pass through. As of Thursday, 80% of the roads were passable thanks to all the efforts of all the volunteers.
A special thanks to all those who donated food & water to keep everyone going. Meals were provided for all who came to help.
A very special "Thank You" to our town board members who were there to help where it was needed.
Now the recovery begins...
As of Friday morning, all inhabited roads are open.
Brush on private property is the land owner's responsibility. Your best option is to hire a contractor to clean up and remove the brush. Option two- would be to stack brush away from structure and retain to burn when the ground is snow-covered.
Option three-Bursh less than 3 inches in diameter may be hauled to Town Hall's brush pile as long as space remains. This if for TOWN OF JACKSON RESIDENTS ONLY. This option will expire on August 1.
WILDFIRE RISK IS EXTREME with all the dry bursh on the ground. We strongly discourage any burning during these summer and fall months.
PLEASE-NO FIREWORKS! These can be responsible for causing wildfires, as well.
Right-of-way brush and log removal will begin on or about July 18. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY DEBRIS ON THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AFTER THE ROAD IS CLEANED UP.
Hopefully by next weekend we will have a better solution for the brush that remains.

Damage is overwhelming! Cleanup efforts will take a long time. Hopefully we will be able to provide more information on an ongoing basis.
And please remember to WORK SAFE!

We hope that you enjoy our website. Hopefully you will find an abundance of information and statistics about us. There are pages with information on our highway department, fire department and cemetery. We have a directory of all Town Board members including their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Each month we will post our Town Board agendas and minutes from the meetings. Our Town ordinances, annual budget and election and tax information can also be found here. You will also be able to find links to many valuable websites.
The Town of Jackson is participating with Burnett County to develop a Comprehensive Land Use Plan. We will be working with Foth Consulting to complete our plan. We will have information posted on this website that will list dates and times of informational meetings and details of the progress being made.
